25th to 27th September 2026 - Gwentrek 2026
Two teams from our Scout troop entered Gwentrek 2026, which this year was held in Gilwern and the surrounding countryside. A supported team of our younger members teamed up with Scouts from 26th Newport Scout Group and 1st Marshfield Scout Group to make up a team of 6 Scouts for the GT competition. We also entered a team of 6 Scouts in the GT+ competition who competed unsupported throughout the weekend. Both teams completed all tasks using skill and determination to achieve the goals set for them. Although not being placed in the top three places for their level of competition they enjoyed themselves and the leaders are proud to say they all competed with the determination that will stand them in good stead for the future. Well done Scouts.
1st Wentwood Scout Group are grateful to Penhow Community Council for their recent financial donation towards us putting on the Annual Firework Display. Also, for the grant we have received towards replacing the doors on our headquarters The Pike Den. The support we receive from Penhow Community Council is vital to us in making events and projects the success they are.
During a late spring clear out, we found we needed to upgrade our shelving to make it more substantial and better suited to our needs. Supported by the generosity of ALS Trading, who provided all the materials and labour required, free of charge, we were able to achieve our goal. We now have shelving that will last for many years and support us in providing adventure to our members. A huge thank you to Adam and his team for their help and support.
